Roberto Diaz is a father, University student, support to many, writer, award winner, and since July 29th, 2017, a proud man in recovery. He was born in Valparaiso, Chile and has lived in Edmonton, Alberta for the last 32 years. In 2019, he successfully graduated from Edmonton’s Drug Treatment Court, having been consumed by the disease of addiction for thirteen years. Today, Roberto is employed as a Peer Support Worker with both Alberta Health Services and the Edmonton Drug Treatment Court. He additionally works with Parents Empowering Parents where he serves as a facilitator with the Virtual Family Recovery Support group, as well as a Peer Support Worker with UTURN, a support group for youth and young adults involved in substance use. In addition to his vocational and academic pursuits, Roberto coordinates and participates in various volunteer endeavors aimed at supporting the most marginalized and at-risk populations in the city of Edmonton.
In recognition of his success in personal rehabilitation and his many contributions to community restoration, Roberto received the Canadian Criminal Justice Association Restoration Award in 2022.
